Another story of unfair competition

One of our clients sells their products on Amazon, and they came to us for some help to protect their brand. As we all know, there are hundreds of thousands of products to choose from on Amazon, and being noticed by potential clients can be very challenging. It is even more challenging when other companies decide to ride on the success of a legitimate company by using the same name whilst selling lower quality products. This is damaging for the legitimate company because their potential clients sometimes cannot tell the difference between two marketplaces selling seemingly identical products.

Amazon offers a whole range of services, called Amazon Brand Registry, to help legitimate companies protect their brand, but one of the services that they do not provide is the registration of trademarks. This gap is filled by GreatBrands. Amazon reports, that already more than 150.000 brands are using their Amazon brand protection services successfully, and that there are 99% fewer infringements.

Once the trademark had been registered and the client was in possession of the necessary documentation, our client uploaded the documents to their Amazon account and within one hour 161 marketplaces, who were using our client’s brand to sell goods of lesser quality, were shut down.

In the coming weeks and months, the business implications for our client will be measured in the increasing number of orders coming through, because the unfair competition has been removed from Amazon. This process is going to be repeated on all the marketplaces where they are selling their goods, further increasing the positive business impact for our client.
